Firefox Usage is Still Growing

Besides the new Safari for Windows, there haven’t really been any major releases on the popular browsers lately. So this is a good time to take a look at browser popularity. Based on data published by W3Schools I created this quick graph to illustrate the popularity of browsers.

Browser Graph

We can clearly see a steady increase in Firefox.

Based on this trend I wouldn’t hesitate to say Firefox will be the most popular browser in the next month or so. Firefox will be at the top for at least a small period of time while Microsoft switches all legacy users from IE6 to IE7.

One of the interesting things to keep en eye on is the acceptance of the new Safari for Windows, and if this Safari will hinder Firefox’s growth, and even more interesting is how Mac users (including iPhone users) will help Safari gain market share in the next few months.

So what does the movement in browser popularity mean to a regular user? Not much. For Web developers though, this means a more compliant browser is taking the reigns.
